City Buses

Downtown Buses

There are three types of Gwangju buses, express bus (red), main line (yellow), and local line (green).

- Express Main Line (No.01~09) : moves quickly by way of main branch like subway

- Main Line (No. 10~49) : connects a zone by regional groups

- Local Line : connects a zone and school in area

You can find information related to bus lines or bus schedules on the website. (www.bus.gjcity.net)
Bus usually run from 5:40 a.m. for big buses (40-seater) and 6 a.m. (small buses) to 11 p.m. daily. Subway runs from 5:30 a.m. to 11:40 p.m.daily. All bus stop announcements are spoken in Korean and English, with installed LED display which uses both Korean and English. There is 'Gwangju Bus' App downloadable from the application store that contains information about buses, bus stops and bus lines. Bus fare varies depending on adult, youth, children, and using a transportation card is cheaper than cash.

Prepaid Card : Hanpay, MyBi, CashBee, Cooperation Card with Kwangju Bank

<Purchasing a Hanpay Transportation Card>

You can use this card available for bus, taxi, subway, and public establishment in Jeollanam Province. Types : for Adults, for College students, for Youth, and for Children

for College students : discount for subway (charge for adults cost to bus)

※ All card owners have to register their cards first within 10 days to be able to receive discounts.

Selling Point : Hanpay card designated affiliated stores

Price : Mini card 4,000 won (half the size of a credit card), Handphone accessory type 6,000 won

Charge Amount : 5,000 won to 500,000 won available

<Purchasing a CashBi (MyBi) Transportation Card>

CashBi (MyBi) Bus system is transportation card which enables its users to board buses in all provinces in Korea. Originally MyBi card was introduced first but recently they are combined. You can use this card every where in Korea except parts of capital area and Gangwon area.

Store : CashBi (MyBi) card designated affiliated stores

Price : Normal card 2,000~3,500 won, handphone accessory type 5,000~8,000 won

Charge Amount : 5,000 won to 500,000 won available


-Deferred Card : KB Bank, ShinHan (Old LG) Card, Kwangju Card, NH Card, Lotte Card, Samsung Card, BC Card, Hana SK Card, Hyundai Card

※ Deferred Card is Credit Card that has functions of transportation card.

Using a Transportation Card

- Using transportation card available for free transits.

- To make a transit, scan your transportation card before getting off your bus. The free transits is available within 30 minutes of transfering buses.

- One person can only make one free transit using one card. (Example: subway->subway(X) transfer to bus No.1->transfer to bus No.1(X))

- Free transits on the same line is not allowed.

※ Airport Limousine Bus is not available for free transits.
